Celebrate Spook-tober 2022 With These Hawai’i Island Halloween Events

Happy Halloween, ghouls and goblins! Hawai’i Island is ringing in October, and what better way to celebrate the spooky season than with candy, costumes, and a calendar chock full of events? Here are some of the best 2022 Hawai’i Island Halloween spook-tober events:

Hawai’i Island Halloween Events for Kids and Families

KTA Halloween Costume Contest
October 14–31 | KTA | Online event

Are you dressing up for Halloween? Share your costumes with your favorite grocery store in their KTA Halloween 2022 contest for a chance to win one of three prizes: “Boo Baskets” worth over $50. Enter by sharing a photo on your PUBLIC Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter account using the hashtag #KTAHalloween2022 and tag @ktasuperstores, or complete the entry form online here. Enter by midnight on October 31. One costume per entry (per photo), up to 10 entries per person.

YAS: Haunted House
October 15–31 | East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center | 141 Kalākaua St., Hilo

The Youth Art Series’ presents its Haunted House, in collaboration with the Hawaiʻi Science and Technology Museum. Find yourself on a journey through a haunted forest, where spooky creatures and enchanted art await. This haunted house is an art-based sculptural installation. Admission is by donation. All proceeds go toward continuing youth programs at the East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center. Learn more.

Regular hours of operation on Fridays and Saturdays are 4–7 PM, and Sundays 1–4 PM. On Saturday, October 29, in collaboration with the Spooky Square, hours will be 2–7 PM. On Halloween night, hours are 4–8 PM.

Queen’s Marketplace Fall Harvest Patch
October 15–31 | Queens’ Marketplace | 69-201 Waikoloa Beach Dr., Waikoloa

Look out for a Fall Harvest Patch at Queens’ Marketplace, complete with Waimea-grown pumpkins, hay bales and scarecrows! Take a commemorative photo with your little ones at the patch. Plus, tag @QueensMarketPlace on Instagram or Facebook in your photos, and you’ll be entered for a chance to win $300 in gift cards to Queens’ Marketplace merchants. Holoholo-ween: Fall Fest and Pumpkin Patch
October 15–30 (every Sat & Sun) | Hawai’i Green Earth | Pa’auilo

Holoholo-ween features a real pumpkin patch experience for the whole ‘ohana, set outdoors on Hawai’i Green Earth’s farm in Pa’auilo on the east side of Hawai’i Island. Part fall festival, part trunk-or-treat, this Big Island Halloween event will be safe and fun for all ages! Admissions tickets are $20 per vehicle, for up to five people. Hilo Axe Lounge’s Haunted House

Hilo Axe Lounge is hosting a 3,000 square foot guided lantern tour and haunted house beginning October 16 until Halloween night. The event is open to all ages. More information coming.

Queen’s Marketplace Seek or Treat
October 22–31 | Queens’ Marketplace | 69-201 Waikoloa Beach Dr., Waikoloa

Kids and families can celebrate Halloween in West Hawai’i at Queens’ Marketplace with a fun, socially-distanced scavenger hunt. All you need to participate is a smart phone, an adventurous spirit, and a face mask! Costumes are welcome too! Enjoy this scavenger hunt from October 22–31 between 11 AM – 6 PM. Night at the Museum
October 26 | ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center | 600 ‘Imiloa Pl., Hilo

ʻImiloa Astronomy Center is hosting a spooktacular Family Night celebrating Halloween and the nocturnal creatures of Hawaiʻi on October 26. Doors open from 4–8 PM. Join the museum for a fun night featuring activities for the whole family! There will be spooky-cute hand painting, crafts and activities featuring favorite creatures of the night, a pumpkin decorating contest (see below), and for the first time ever, a glow in the dark scavenger hunt and Toddler Halloween Town with Halloween-themed activities specially designed for toddlers! Halloween Trick-or-Treat

Head on down to the Puna Kai Shopping Center for the Halloween Trick-or-Treat AND trunk-or-treat from 5-7pm on October 28. Fun for the whole family! Safe trick-or-treating for all ages (don’t forget your bags!), a haunted house, face painting, balloons, and all sorts of treats from different vendors. The Tricky Trail

The Pahoa School Community Council presents THE TRICKY TRAIL! Don your costumes and bring your treat buckets for drive-thru trick-or-treating at Pahoa Elementary and a haunted walk-thru for more treats on the Pahoa High School campus. Follow the signs!

Lanihau-lloween

After two long years, Lanihau-lloween is finally back! Come and join the Lanihau shops for a free, spook-tacular time doing some storefront trick-or-treating. Live remote music provided by KWXX, keiki pumpkin decorating, face painting, and so much more! Event open from 6–9 PM. Come down dressed up, too, and enter the costume contest for Best ʻOhana, Adult, and Keiki costumes. Learn more.

VAC Spooky Trail

Come and walk the Spooky Trail at Volcano Art Center. Your adventure begins with a tour of the Halloween Village, then your tour ghoul will lure you into the Haunted Forest. $5 admissions fee per person. Friday, October 28, 5–7 PM. Enter if you Dare: The Haunted Palace

KidX Candy Crawl

Candy Crawl (trick-or-treating, 4–6 PM) is primarily a kids event, followed by Flannel Fest (music from 6–8 PM) for the entire family! Spooky Square

The Downtown Hilo Museum Square presents Spooky Square 2022! The Museum Square has partnered with businesses from all around the block for a FREE family-friendly trick-or-treating event. BISAC’s 2nd Annual Trunk-or-Treat

The Big Island Substance Abuse Council presents its 2nd annual drive-thru trick-or-treating experience, featuring local businesses and nonprofit organizations! From 3–5 PM, drive up to load your car full of goodies.

An Enchanted Hui Trail Fundraiser

Happy Hearts Hui presents its Halloween fundraiser! Enjoy an enchanted trail ride, rich with magical creatures, live music, and treats, and a fairy fashion show. Face painting, magic wand making, and bake sale available! Events include: Munchkin Masquerade Wave (2:00–3:45 PM) and Fire Fairy Wave (4:00–5:45 PM). All ages welcome to this costume-friendly event. Waiākea High School Pumpkin Patch

The Waiākea High School PTSA presents its 4th annual Halloween pumpkin patch! On Saturday, October 29, from 9 AM – 2 PM, go to the WHS Gymnasium and partake in all the fun and festivities—hundreds of pumpkins, games, crafts, food vendors, and more! Trick-or-Treat at Parker Ranch

Hoku’s Legacy Riders’ Halloween Fundraiser

Hoku’s Legacy Riders is hosting a Halloween fundraiser! Get the keiki on horseback for trunk-or-treat pony ride, petting zoo, and haunted house. Halloween Maze & Spooky Scavenger Hunt at Botanical World Adventures

Calling all families to for the 8th annual Halloween event at Botanical World Adventures! Free Halloween treats are available. Maze and scavenger hunt open from 9 AM–3 PM. Come and celebrate the spooky season with the local coffee house and Internet cafe: Da Beans Green! Pre-sale tickets are $10 for the whole family, walk-up ticket availability based on space. Enjoy a spooky movie marathon (kid-friendly rating) at 4 PM with popcorn included, and dress up for a costume contest. Individual costume winner announced after the movie at 8:30 PM, with the opportunity for a $20 cash prize. Group costume winner announced at 9 PM for $50 cash prize. Pumpkin pie, toasted marshmallow lattes, slushies, and caramel apples available for purchase. Free trick-or-treating available for those who do not want to attend the event.

Hilo Town Haunt: Big Island PRIDE’s Costume Contest and Trick-or-Treating

Join the historic Hilo Palace Theater for the most fabulous Hawai’i Island Halloween festivities on this side of Mauna Kea. Swing by the theater’s front steps with your keiki between 5:30-7:00 PM for family friendly trick-or-treating on Haili St. with Big Island PRIDE as part of the 5th Annual Hilo Town Haunt.

Strut your stuff across the Palace stage to show off your costume for our esteemed panel of judges. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd  place, along with Riff Raff’s Choice Award. Prize packages include exciting items from local companies such as Aerial Arts Hawaii, Big Island Grown, and more. Doors open for the costume contest at 7 PM. Pahoa Halloween Fest

Pahoa Regional Park and Everyday Hero Project are collaborating to host a community Halloween Fest to provide a safe environment to celebrate the spooky season! Bring the keiki and ‘ohana to enjoy an evening of games, arts and crafts, trunk-or-treat, movies, a photo booth, books, and concessions. Get the party started from 5–7 PM.

Rocky Horror Show LIVE at Aloha Theatre

Bottle of Blue Halloween Party

Bottle of Blue is a 5-piece rock band based on the Big Island of Hawaii. Lead singer Scott Reagan delivers powerful vocals, backed by the guitar pyrotechnics of guitarist Steve Fundy and the rock solid rhythm section of Bassist Dave Ojeda and drummer Noa Eads provide an infectious driving groove. New addition Warren Nelson (keyboard) rounds out the sound. With jams that take their audience on ethereal musical journeys, Bottle of Blue has become a Big Island favorite. Calling all witches and warlocks! Fly around Hilo Bay in the fourth annual Witch Regalia! Bring whatever you have that floats: stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, and more welcome. Don’t forget to dust off the witch hat and garb! Meet at Reeds Bay Hotel at 9 AM, and ride at 9:30 AM. Stick around around after for a potluck and libations.

Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra’s Halloween Concert

The Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra Society will be bringing live spooky orchestral music to Keauhou Shopping Center in celebration of Halloween! The Kamuela Philharmonic is a nonprofit charity that promotes the culture of both classical music and the cultural traditions of Hawaiʻi. This 1-hour concert is free, 12–1 PM. Bring your own chair. Rocky Horror Picture Show and Costume Contest

The Palace Theater proudly presents its 12th annual Halloween Night screening spectacular featuring The Rocky Horror Picture Show and costume contest hosted by Lady Lily La Douce & Celeste W. Starr!
