It’s a busy weekend, full of a variety of free Big Island events, including an extremely jam-packed Saturday. You can find more festivals celebrating plants, high school celebrations, two chances to meet the new furry love of your life, and a unique way of doing good in the community. And that doesn’t even account for the Super Bowl on Sunday!

Under the Bodhi Tree Grand Opening - Pahoa -
February 10
Under the Bodhi Tree, a health cafe and community gathering place, celebrates its grand opening this week, including an evening event with performances by Makali’i Pleiiiades, Elele Tiana, and Dramma. This free event from 7 to 9pm on February 10 is a great chance to check out their new space at Puna Kai Shopping Center where they will serve up great food and host events like game nights, cooking demonstrations, yoga, and more. Free Hawai'i Island Events February 11, 2023
16th Annual Avocado Festival - Kona - February 11
It’s time, again, for the celebration of Hawai’i’s favorite savory fruit, the avocado! This free, family-friendly event will be held at Hale Halawai in downtown Kona from 10am to 4pm. Event features include all things avocado — growing, grafting, and pruning workshops and information, avocado food preparation and tasting, as well as craft and food vendors. There will also be live performances by Dr. Tim’s Medicine Band and and Sweet Kanilehua. Learn more HERE.
12th Annual Wiliwili Festival - Waikōloa Dry Forest Reserve - February 12
The preserve will be open to the public from 9am-3pm, please don’t arrive early as presenters will be setting up! Self-guided hikes will be allowed and small group hikes will be led by staff and volunteers throughout the day. Keiki scavenger hunts can be picked up at the front gate and redeemed for a chance to win prizes at Hale Hana Hou. The native plant giveaway will begin at 9am at the nursery in the preserve. Wiliwili Great Photo Contest – Can you capture a wiliwili great photo in the dry forest? This is your chance to get your creative juices flowing and show us what you’ve got! Share your best photo from the forest on Instagram using the hashtag #WiliwiliGreatPhoto. Make sure to tag us @WaikoloaDryForest. The winner will score some awesome WDFI Merch! Photo submissions will be shared on our Instagram story during the festival. If your instagram account is private, we will not be able to see your photo. You can submit your photo to us by private messaging our @WaikoloaDryForest account. All photos must be taken in the Waikōloa Dry Forest during the Festival on February 11th. The winner will be announced via Instagram. Only one photo submission is allowed per person.
Year of the Rabbit Paper Craft Workshop - Hilo - February 12

The Beat of My Heart - STEAM Community Event in Honor of Valentine's Day - Kona - February 12
Hawai’i Keiki Museum (74-5533 Luhia St., Kona) is celebrating Valentine’s Day with STEAM close to heart! All activities are available with the price of regular admission to the museum – $12 adults, $7 keiki ($5 per person for kama’aina). Annual Pass/Museum Members enter on their pass, no additional payment necessary.

Pet Adoption Events in Hilo & Waimea - February 11
If you’re looking for the new love of your life to cuddle with this Valentine’s Day, you have two adoption event opportunities to find “the one” this weekend. At the Hilo Petco you’ll find Rainbow Friends and Action for Animals Hawai‘i from 11am to 4pm. Catsnip will have kitties at Hawai’i Preparatory Academy’s Village Campus from 11am to 3pm.

Silent Disco Beach Cleanup - Kona - February 12
Come join us ~at Wawaloli OTEC Beach -Natural Energy Laboratory on Sunday, February 12th from 9:00am-12:00PM for a Silent Disco Beach cleanup~ as we clean, create, & dance freely in nature with noise-canceling wireless headsets to restore our minds, bodies, and hearts with movement & music and as our medicine. Our intention is to help foster genuine connections to self, others, and nature through our immersive events.
Beach Cleanup: 9 AM – 12:00 PM(Feel free to come by at any time and help as much as you would like. We do have some buckets and trash pickers available for use.)
