It’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and there’s plenty to do to celebrate the Irish holiday. If you’re looking for all things St. Paddy’s, be sure to check out our guide HERE. That said, there are still plenty of weekend events that you don’t have to wear green to attend.

Waimea Food Truck Friday - Waimea

🍀The next Waimea Food Truck Friday at W.M. Keck Observatory Headquarters is this Friday, March 17, from 4 to 8pm. This alcohol-free event includes some of the Island’s best food and beverage vendors, free entry, restrooms, and plenty of parking. There will also be live music by Dagan Music from 5 to 7pm, and to celebrate the green day they’ll be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt and drawing. Braing an umbrella and your picnic blanket or chair.🍀

Luck of the Irish Party – Downtown Honoka’a

The Honoka’a Business Association certainly knows how to throw a party, so you know their St. Patrick’s Day bash is going to be a blast! This all-day event on Saturday, March 18 stretches from 10am to 6pm and will include showcases of downtown businesses, vendors, food trucks, and live music, including a special performance by Craiceáilte Celtic in the afternoon. Don’t forget to wear your green and gold!

Lil Paniolos Arts & Crafts - Parker Ranch Center - Waimea

Get your ʻohana ready because you’re in for a good time at Parker Ranch Center’s Lil Paniolos Keiki Club!
Join PRC for a fun time filled with arts 🎨, crafts 🖌 and snacks 🍎 on Saturday, March 18th at 10am in the Fireside Food Court! Learn about Parker Ranch with a history lesson and fun craft kits! This month’s snack comes from our gracious snack sponsor, L&L Hawaiian BBQ! Learn more HERE.

Coffee Talk at Kahuku: Keōuakuʻahuʻula & Kamehameha: Cousins and Bitter Rivals - HVNP, Kahuku Unit

Hawaiian warriors fought fierce battles throughout Kaʻū in the late 1700s. Keōuakuʻahuʻula, (beloveed son of Kaʻū and heir apparent of his father Kalaniopuʻu) struggled to regain control of Hawaiʻi Island from his cousin, the rising king, Kamehameha. Join us to hear about the hand-to hand combat in both the Battle of the Bitter Rain and the Battle of the Stolen Cannon, two battles between the cousins that raged in our back yards. Our speaker will be retired Park Ranger, Jay Robinson, 30 year Kaʻū resident from the Volcano Golf Course Subdivision.

This section of the park is located an hour’s drive from Kīlauea Visitor Center. Enter the Kahuku unit of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park on the ma uka (uphill) side of Highway 11 near mile marker 70.5, and meet near the parking area. The lecture begins at 9:30am and lasts 90 minutes. Learn more HERE.

Kanikapila Concert Series - Queens' Marketplace - Waikoloa

Go for the shopping – stay for the music! Join Queens’ Marketplace on Saturday, March 18 at 6pm at the Coronation Pavilion for their monthly Kanikapila Concert Series presented by KWXX. This month they are featuring Ryan Hiraoka.

Art Saturday: Colored Dot and Oil Pastel Art - Hawai‘i Public Library - Hilo

Colored dots everywhere!!!

Create awesome scenes with oil pastels crayons, markers and colored dots. In this art activity, you will be using oil pastel crayons to blend colors together to create various scenes. Finish your masterpiece with an explosion of colored dots to create trees and stars in the night sky.

Free Big Island Events -- Sunday, March 19, 2023

Spring Equinox Ceremonial Planting at Hāmākua Harvest - Honoka'a

Join us in a hands on day of ceremony and community planting celebrating Spring Equinox and the shift of seasons. Come for Hāmākua Harvest’s beautiful farmer’s market with refreshments and live music before noon as we advise arriving before ceremony and planting begins promptly at 12 noon. All ages and abilities are welcome to plant and mālama ‘āina with us, there’s lots of different things to do, most importantly sharing and being together. Bring your gloves, hats, tools, water, and sunscreen, hana goes to about 3pm. Learn more HERE.

An Evening of Aloha ‘Āina – Films for Future Generations at Honoka’a People’s Theater (45-3574 Mamane St.)
