Halloween is Baaaack – Don’t Miss these 2021 Big Island Halloween Events!

It’s official — Halloween is baaaaaack this year! Both the CDC and the Hawai‘i Department of Health have given their blessings to allow our little ghouls and goblins to go forth and enjoy all the tricks and treats their little hearts can handle. Mayor Roth has also gotten on board, encouraging a “common sense” Halloween that sees revelers sticking to small groups, maintaining social distancing, masking, and using other safe practices throughout the holiday weekend. So now that it’s official, here are some of the best 2021 Big Island Halloween events:

Miscellaneous Halloween Fun

Sweet treats: Some of our favorite bakeries are having some extra fun this Halloween. Short n Sweet Bakery in Hilo has edible paint cookies that the kids can decorate themselves, along with some really cool pumpkin and skull cocoa bombs. At Sandwich Isle Food Arts in Waimea you’ll find mummies and ghosts transformed into sweet treats. Kona’s Bleu Bakery is selling adorably spooky cupcakes and eyeball and chocolate covered strawberries. For a cool treat, try a Boo-Bae bubble waffle dessert at Nector Cafe.  Check out your favorite local Big Island bakeries for more Halloween treats!

Pumpkin recycling: Don’t dump your used pumpkin in the landfill! Clean pumpkins (no paint, no preservatives, etc) are great treats for farm animals. Donate them to your local farm animal sanctuary!

Pala’ai stencils: If you still haven’t carved your pumpkin, you’ll want to check out these pala’ai (pumpkin) stencils from Kua Kanaka featuring Hawaiian Halloween motifs including lanalana (spider), pueo (owl), and he’e (octopus), among others. Grab them for free on their website.
