It’s time for another long weekend as we sink into spring and have more opportunities to get out and explore. There are some great opportunities to support youth programs, artists, and get more involved in the community.

Big Island Art Fair - Kahilu Town Hall - Waimea

The Big Island Art Fair is back at Kahilu Town Hall in Waimea this weekend. The event kicks off on Thursday at 10am and features more than 20 Big Island artists. On Friday guests can enter to win their “Aloha Friday Drawing” for $100 to spend at Fair. On Saturday is the big reveal of the winner of “Real or Imagined Spring Landscape” Art Contest announced. $400 in cash prizes awarded! Learn more about the event HERE.

Red Road Resource Fair - SPACE - Seaview Estates

Join Hawaii’s Volcano Circus Resilience Hub on Saturday March 25 as they host the Red Road Resource Fair! This is an opportunity to come together as a community, learn about services and resources available, discuss disaster preparedness and celebrate community assets with great food from the SPACE Community Gardens! There will be booths set up from organizations who can help us with our individual and community resilience, and lots of folks to talk story together. Kalo Harvest Day - OK Farms - Hilo

Hawai’i ‘Ulu Cooperative is really excited to start harvesting the first crop of kalo at the OK Farms Hawai‘i ʻUlu Agroforestry demonstration orchard. They planted the huli in June 2022 and there is now plenty to harvest! Join them this Saturday 3/25 from 9am to 1pm for their monthly community work day! Volunteers will be able to go home with huli to plant in their garden, luau and kalo to enjoy at home! Meet at OK Farms (1570 Maikalani St., Hilo). Learn more HERE.
 

Cultural Craft Fair - Kealakehe Intermediate School - Kona

Find a wide variety of vendors including handmade craft vendors, food trucks, dessert trucks, as well as free entertainment at the Kealakehe Intermediate School (74-5062 Onipa’a St., Kona) Cultural Craft Fair on Saturday from 2 to 5pm. YWCA Keiki Fun Fair - Hilo

The annual YWCA Keiki Fun Fair is back! At this year’s Keiki Fun Fair at YWCA of Hawaii Island Developmental Preschool (145 Ululani St., Hilo) guests can enjoy different craft and food vendors, a silent auction, and carnival games for the keiki. Secret Agent Party with the Girl Scouts - Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens - Hilo

Sharpen your skills of observation, technical design, and simple coding—all while building curiosity and confidence with Girl Scouts! They’ll be training secret sleuths at the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens (800 Stainback Hwy – Pavilion 1, Hilo). Grab a free ticket for the event HERE.

Kahuku Hike: ‘Ōhi‘a Lehua - HVNP

Learn about the vital role of ‘ōhi‘a lehua in native Hawaiian forests, the many forms of the ‘ōhi‘a tree, and the threat of a new fungal disease, Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death. Visitors will be able to identify the many differences of the most prominent native tree in Kahuku on this program, which is an easy, one-mile (or less) walk.

Attendees should be prepared for sun, rain, hot & cold conditions. Wear sturdy footwear and bring water. The program begins at 9:30am.

This section of the park is located an hour’s drive from Kīlauea Visitor Center. Enter the Kahuku Unit of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park on the ma uka (uphill) side of Highway 11 near mile marker 70.5, and meet near the parking area. Learn more HERE.

Movies Under the Stars - King Kamehameha Beach Resort - Kona

Join King Kamehameha Kona Beach Resort (75-5660 Palani Rd., Kona) on Saturday nights for Movies Under the Stars!

Free for locals and guests of the resort, grab a seat on the Luau Grounds at sunset and enjoy your favorite movies with freshly popped popcorn.

Free Big Island Events -- Sunday, March 26, 2023

Nani Mau Gardens Re-Grand Opening - Hilo

Nani Mau Gardens (421 Makalika St., Hilo) is under new management, and they’re launching this new era with a Re-Grand Opening this weekend. Visit them from 2 to 6pm for an opening ceremony, guest speakers, snacks and treats, food and craft vendors, entertainment, and a beer garden.
