Spring Break is officially here (well, as of Friday afternoon)! The weekend leading into the school break is pretty packed, but almost all of the events that we could find all fall on Saturday this weekend. So, we wish you luck in picking which events to attend and which to skip — there’s some good stuff to choose from. Youth Arts Square - Hilo

How about a family-friendly art walk event to kick off the Spring Break weekend? East Hawai’i Culture Center aims to bring more exposure to downtown Hilo museums and businesses through quarterly Museum Square events. This quarter’s event focuses on showcasing youth art at a variety of venues across the downtown Hilo area, with many of the venues hosting specials for the event. Big Island Climbers is offering free shoe rentals for everyone and a special finger puppet for keiki all day on 3/11. Cronies Bar & Grill is offering 10% off for all patrons from 10am to 2pm during the art walk. Aerial Arts Hawai’i is having an open house with coupons for discounted classes. Kea'au Elementary Family Fun Fair - Kea'au

The annual Kea’au Elementary Fun Fair is back! This Saturday from 9am to 1pm guests can enjoy inflatables (free), a rummage sale, live entertainment, and a silent auction, all in support of the school. Food trucks will also be there, including Duck Fat, 808 Smash Burgerrs, Big Island Birria Boss, and Wicked Bowls. Kea’au Elementary is located at 16-680 Kea’au Pahoa Rd. Lā'au Lapa'au Workshop - Hilo

Hui Mālama Nā ‘Ōiwi invites the community to participate in their Lā’au Lapa’au workshop to learn about traditional Hawaiian healing lā’au and cultural practices from a native Hawaiian practitioner. There participants can explore gardening techniques and learn different forms of farming, as well as engage in conversations with their farming expert – Keahi Tajon, who is an expert in agroforestry. The workshop will be held at the Butler Building (323 Manono St.) from 9am to 2pm. Participants should bring their own brown bag lunch. Learn more and sign up HERE.

Second Saturday Pāhoa Music & Art Walk - Pāhoa

The monthly art and music walk held every second Saturday of the month in Pāhoa is back! Guests can enjoy the revelry stretched all throughout Pāhoa Town with live music at a variety of venues, stretching from 3 to 11pm. Other activities include tarot readings, live painting, coconut weaving, and more. In the Savio Realty parking lot there will be an artisan market set up with a variety of goods and food vendors. Be sure to stop by one of Pāhoa’s many wonderful restaurants (like Cajun Hideaway or Ning’s Thai Cuisine for dinner!

Liliuokalani Park Work Day - Hilo

Join volunteers, including traveling from ARCC Adventure Travel, starting at 8 a.m. to help remove accumulated mud from Waihonu near the new makaha.
Tomorrow’s work area is from the ironwood bush on the wall over to the stairs. Removing mud in this area will help restore tidal flow through the stone wall. 8 a.m. until lunchtime. Learn more HERE.

Open Mic & Karaoke Night at Blue Dragon Tavern - Kawaihae

Join Blue Dragon Tavern (61-3616 Kawaihae Rd.) for Open Mic & Karaoke Night,  hosted by Big Island musician and singer/songwriter Miles Wakefield…you heard right…open mic AND karaoke on the same night! Whether youʻre a fan of open mic or karaoke…they’ve got you covered! Share your musical/vocal talents on our stage with a professional sound and lighting system in a beautiful open-air venue. Even if youʻre not musically inclined, enjoy some of the Big Islandʻs many talented musicians and singers…you never know whoʻs going to show up!

Gam3Escape's Mini Gamers Swap Meet - Hilo

Gam3Escape is excited to host another Mini Gamers Swap Meet! Various vendors including TCG, Anime, stuffed animals, snacks, toys, and other items. There will be Pokemon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, including slabs!
 
Featured vendors include Antics Pizza, Epyk Collectibles, TCG808Marketplace, Da Anime Hub, Chi’s Things, 808 Custom Kine Creations, Hawaii Collectibles, and others!

“Resilience in Our Lives” featuring keynote speaker Bart Aoki, PhD
A graduate of Konawaena High School, Dr. Bart Aoki holds masters and doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology. During his career of over forty years, he practiced psychology, conducted research, and led grant programs in the state of California. Dr. Aoki also developed community- based programs to strengthen social competence and resilience among Asian American adolescents.
